Duties and Responsibilities:
Member Educator
Section 15: Member Educator
Knowledge of the history, ritual, and customs of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Tennessee Kappa is of the highest importance to ensure that we thrive as an organization. Member education has been used in the past during pledge programs.
Tennessee Kappa will be in full compliance with Sigma Alpha Epsilon National Laws by having no pledge program. We have a four- year education process as opposed to a pledge period.
In the past, the Member Educator was associated with the education of pledges. Tennessee Kappa has no pledge program. Any effort by the Member Educator to differentiate education methods that are specifically focused on new initiates will immediately be processed for expulsion by the Eminent Warden.
The Member Educator will:
Ensure that Tennessee Kappa is in 100% complete and total compliance with a having no Pledge Program and fulfilling the requirements of The Phoenix.
In NO WAY create a membership education program that is different for ANY sub-group of the membership, especially new initiates. Any activity that separates the new initiates from the rest of the active chapter will be treated as hazing under the law of the State of Tennessee, Tennessee Code Annotated 49-2-120.
Ensure that all new initiates complete The Phoenix membership program within the seventy–two (72) hour timeline from bid receipt.
Maintain and develop the “local modules” membership testing requirements for ALL members of Tennessee Kappa to ensure that ALL members are tested equally on:
Sigma Alpha Epsilon history and ritual.
Tennessee Kappa history.
Key elements necessary to be a member of Tennessee Kappa.
University of Tennessee history.
Other continuing education as required.
Monitor each member’s progress on The Phoenix for their associated module.
Not commit the chapter to any contract, whether written or verbal or otherwise, nor has any spending authority whatsoever.
Fine any member that has not completed their module at the sixty (60) day mark $100. The initial fine can be suspended before the seventy (70) day point if the said member completes the modules.
The fine cannot be appealed at the seventy- one (71) day mark and must be paid in full to remain a member in good standing. At the seventy- one (71) day mark, the member should be fined $25 every ten (10) days. These fines cannot be appealed.
After ninety (90) days if said member has not completed his modules, he is automatically suspended from all Tennessee Kappa activities and prohibited from entering the chapter house or attending any Tennessee Kappa functions. If he resides in the house, he must move out before the ninety- five (95) day point.
Said member may appeal to the Standards Committee for reinstatement with proof of module completion, however none of the fines can be waived or reimbursed and said member cannot return to active membership until all membership dues / fees / penalties of any kind, are fully paid.
Perform all duties set forth in the National Laws, Title VII, Article 53, Section J.
