Philanthropy

Sigma Alpha Epsilon holds a Paddy Murphy philanthropy week every spring semester, organizing various campus-wide events which raise money for an organization picked by the chapter. Paddy Murphy week tends to be the largest Philanthropy event that ΣΑΕ hosts each year both in terms of length and the amount of money raised. This event is a strong ΣΑΕ tradition for chapters across the country and the Tennessee Kappa Chapter enjoys maintaining that tradition here at the University of Tennessee.

This yearly event pairs TN Kappa with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee – a non-profit, youth development organization located here in Knoxville. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps underprivileged youth in Knoxville and the surrounding areas overcome adversity through a one-to-one mentoring program. TN Kappa helps to provide gifts for these children as well as raising money for Big Brothers Big Sisters. In December, the chapter attends the Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Merry Little Christmas Party at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Knoxville to deliver all the collected gifts and celebrate the work of all involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. As a chapter, we are excited to continue our involvement and work with this group and intend to support them in any way they need.

ΣΑΕ pairs with the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley to provide an event where fraternities and sororities can come together to both raise money and interact with puppies for an afternoon. There is typically food, good music, and a chance to meet and play with some of the dogs and puppies from the Humane Society. In order to raise money, the fraternity designs and creates a t-shirt for the event that is available to purchase. All proceeds for the event go back to the Humane Society in the hopes that we can help them save and provide homes for more dogs in need. We greatly appreciate working with the Humane Society and look forward to a continued partnership.
